Health Savings Account

Employees who enroll in the Ardent High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) can enroll in a Health Savings Account, also known as an HSA. An HSA is a tax-exempt savings account that can be used to pay for qualified health care expenses. You own your HSA; interest and investment earnings grow tax-free; and the money is yours to keep, even if you change jobs or retire. Unused funds roll over year to year.

If you sign up for the HDHP, you can open a Via Benefits HSA and make pre-tax contributions to your account, up to the annual IRS limit. You decide how much to contribute each pay period, and you can change or cancel your election at any time (you do not have to have a qualifying life event or wait until Annual Enrollment).

If you participate in the HDHP, Ardent will match your annual HSA contributions – up to $500 for individual coverage and up to $1,000 for all other coverage levels.

Advantages of Enrolling in an HSA

  • Reduce your taxable income and increase your take-home pay.
  • Use funds for current and future health costs.
  • Benefit from matching contributions made by Ardent ($500 for employee-only coverage and $1,000 for all other coverage levels).
  • Funds can earn interest. Plus, you can enjoy investment options.

HSA Eligibility

  • You must participate in a qualifying HDHP.
  • You can’t participate in another health plan that’s not a qualifying HDHP, such as your spouse’s plan, or a Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA), but you can participate in a Limited-Purpose FSA for vision and dental expenses only.
  • You can’t be enrolled in Medicare.
  • You can’t be eligible to be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s tax return.

Annual Contribution Limits

Each year, the Internal Revenue Service sets the maximum contribution limits. These limits include both your and Ardent’s contributions.

2022 HSA Limits

$3,650- Individual coverage

$7,300- Family coverage

If you’re age 55 or older, you can contribute an additional $1,000 in catch-up contributions.

Managing Your Account

You can access your HSA funds through the Via Benefits HSA debit card to pay for eligible expenses, such as your deductible, copays, or coinsurance for doctor visits or prescription medications.
